About Me & My Journey
My name is Blake Stewart. I'm a drummer, teacher, and musician based in North Vancouver. I've been playing drums for 12 years. I've gone from hacking away in the basement to still hacking away in the masement, but also playing years of concerts and recording on multiple albums.
Progression over the years
Age 10 – First Concert
Joined a Battle of the Bands and played my first concert in a band
Age 14 – Recording Songs & Videos
Started making daily tiktoks and recording my own Songs
Age 18 – Today
Years of focused practice, mentorship, recording, and live shows. This is the level I help my students work toward.
Why learn with me?
We'll focus on mastering the technique, both hands and feet. Then we'll look at groove, and learn songs to really improve. We learn the most important rudiments, I've got the full blueprint. We'll work on ostinatos, and build your speed and flow. Weather you want to record or be in a band, I'll make sure your drumming is not bland.
I spent five years learning from my biggest mentor, Arthur Delahook, who completely changed how I look at the drums. He helped me crush my weaknesses, gave me the best exercises for speed and timing, and showed me how to piece together sick solos and beats. More than just the technical stuff, he taught me that every drummer has a different style and something cool to share because every drummer has their own unique experience. I can just as well learn things from you as you can from me. That's the best part about music—we're all just helping each other get better. I'm stoked to see what kind of ideas you bring to the table while we work on your playing.
Lessons are $25 for a 30-minute session or $45 for a 60-minute session.
Right now our place is in the middle of a renovation, so I'm teaching by coming to your home in North Vancouver and nearby areas. Once the reno is finished, you'll be able to choose whether you'd like lessons at your place or at our home studio.
